As a senior engagement strategist, you are integral to your team. You independently run the “day to day” projects and briefs with some guidance. Creatives and suits look for you to help them prove an argument or flesh out a brief. Management knows you can be trusted to establish and substantiate a point of view. You learn to present to clients with authority, “front” meetings and take ownership of projects and their outcomes. You know the basics and collaborate with other strategy disciplines (data, brand, social). Other planners look to you for advice.


You’ll be framing arguments, building ideas and developing a presence.


Your focus as a Senior Engagement Strategist:

  • Building marketing strategies that work across time and multi-touchpoints
  • Representing the agency’s strategic viewpoint in front of clients
  • Developing campaign and communications strategies based on business / brand goals
  • Developing business cases that help clients decide how and where to invest further funds
  • Contributing to creative briefings with agency teams
  • Responding to and helping to improve creative work

The skills you learn and apply:

  • Using data to sequence your CRM strategy using different triggers (e.g. lifestyle, timing, behavior)
  • Using different techniques to build lasting loyalty amongst customers
  • Segmentation, basic understanding of different modelling techniques
  • Testing and analysis, can prioritise tests based on commercial impact, know how to apply learnings.
  • Able to run 360 campaign diagnostics and provide actionable outcomes
  • Using media targeting and search performance data to guide your decision-making
  • Martech, you understand the different types of platforms and how they can be used.
  • Running client workshops, particularly DAVE, in partnership with colleagues
  • Using and creating your own research action plans
  • Writing presentations that establish a clear and persuasive POV
  • Writing case studies and awards entries


The qualities that will make you successful:

  • Construction of compelling narratives
  • Manage 2-3 projects simultaneously
  • Confidence to work independently
  • Can lead small pitches alone
  • Able to influence others & build client relationships
  • c. 4-8 years’ experience

You’re ready to move up when you can position build a multi-touchpoint messaging plan. You can develop action plans and lead large projects, pitches or small accounts. You have the ability and maturity to take on an “apprentice.” You understand different ways communications work and can tailor solutions to different problems. You are a creative problem solver who cracks the nut.
